It’s not weird to find out that a celebrity is on some type of diet, but the things that some stars do to lose weight are certainly strange. While you might just be counting calories or reducing your fat or carb intake, some celebrities are going with completely out there approaches to losing weight. The following are among the weirdest tricks that have been used for the sake of shedding unwanted pounds.
Reese Witherspoon turned to the baby food diet for weight loss. You only get to eat one solid meal of real food a day on this diet, and it’s usually dinner. Breakfast and lunch belong solely to baby food. On the upside, that means quick, no prep meals twice a day. On the downside, it means having to be satisfied with processed mush until dinnertime.
Sarah Michelle Gellar has somehow managed to get through this one, and it seems to be working. Those on the cabbage soup diet are only supposed to eat cabbage soup for one week, although small amounts of fruits and vegetables are ok to include. This diet doesn’t require a lot of time, but it does require being able to stomach a week’s worth of cabbage soup.
Jennifer Lopez has been known to keep grapefruit oil in a handy vial, so she can take a whiff of it while eating. This is supposed to help break fats down, but there’s no actual proof that it does so. Still, this is one of the easier weight loss tricks to follow. While results might be questionable, it makes for a visually interesting diet
Gwyneth Paltrow is infamous for following weird diets, like the macrobiotic diet, but she also came up with her own plan for losing weight and detoxing. The GOOP Cleanse, named after Gwyneth’s brand, involves only eating one meal a day for 21 days. This is supposed to flush out toxins to help you stay slim and feel healthier overall, as long as you can deal with only having one lonely meal a day for a few weeks.
January Jones might just win the award for craziest celebrity weight loss trick. The “Mad Men” actress ingested pills containing her crushed up placenta in order to lose baby weight after having her son. Eating your placenta in some form is something that’s been done for centuries for better baby bonding and more energy, but its weight loss effects haven’t been proven
